Practical and/or Clinical - A Minimum of 24 Credit Hours

The practical and clinical training requirement may be fulfilled by attending and successfully completing approved trainings, seminars, or apprenticeship programs, nationally or internationally. In order to receive credit the student must receive a satisfactory pass or certificate of completion from the appropriate instructor. All practical and clinical must be pre-approved by the student’s Dean.

Practical: The requirements for these courses are:

1. Complete the practical.
2. Complete a certification course, practical, or seminar at a pre-approved location in an apprenticeship, or with a pre-approved instructor.
3. If the student finds it impossible to fulfill either of the above requirements then they may apply for a special exception. This exception will require that the student submit documentation in the form of case studies, a research paper and/or other representation of how they have integrated this modality or course of study into their practice.
4. The last alternative would be to complete a research study in the particular science or modality.

Clinical: The University has a growing list of clinics and centers throughout the Americas and in many foreign countries with practitioners offering to assist students in fulfilling externship requirements. The clinical externship may be completed with a professional practitioner in the area in which the student resides as well. A student may also decide to complete the externship with more than one practitioner to receive a diversity of experience and training. All preceptors in the externship program must meet the established qualifications and requirements of the University of Natural Medicine and thereby be approved by the Dean. Upon completion of the clinical program, the Dean will evaluate each individual’s learning experience and preparedness for integrating knowledge into a Naturopathic practice.
All courses must be documented and verified in order to receive credit.
