NATURAL HEALTH SUMMER SOLSTICE CONFERENCE 2002
June 20-30, 2002 / Santa Fe, NM
Overview
The University of Natural Medicine is excited to announce
the schedule of events for the Natural Health Summer Solstice Conference
2002. We are featuring several different events, and may be adding
a surprise or two in the coming months. We'll keep you updated in
The U's Natural News.
The Conference events range from practical trainings
to lectures, seminars or classes. Most of these are open to anyone
from the University student and faculty body, practitioners, and the
general public, with some exceptions specified in the details of each
event below. Events will be held at various venues around Santa Fe,
including at the University's campus.
The events are being offered individually so you may
attend and pay for only those you choose. There is some overlap so,
unfortunately, you cannot attend everything being offered. Pricing
sometimes features a University of Natural Medicine discount student
and faculty rate, and then an "others" rate.
Important Information
If you will be traveling to Santa Fe from out of town,
keep in mind that most airlines require a minimum of three (3) weeks
advance notice for better airfares. Please note: we are targeting
a minimum number of attendees for each program. If that target number
has not been met by May 20, 2002, we will cancel that particular
event. Therefore, it is important for you to keep two things in mind
as you register for this conference:
1. If you are certain you wish to register for a particular event,
you should do so and send in your deposit by May 13, 2002 so that
we can "make our numbers".
2. Do not make non-refundable plane or hotel reservations until you
are sure that your events are definitely being offered. You will be
notified via e-mail by May 21, 2002 (or by phone if you do not have
e-mail) as to whether or not your events are definitively scheduled.
Please check with us if you are uncertain.
Traveling and Accommodations
Information on traveling to, and accommodations in,
Santa Fe will be provided upon request. We have established some good
"deals" on accommodations here in Santa Fe for attendees
of the Conference. Give us a call and we can tell you about them.
We also encourage you to visit the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce website
for comprehensive information on visiting Santa Fe: www.santafechamber.com.
Registering
A Registration Form is provided at the end of the Description
of Events. You may also request that a copy of it be e-mailed, faxed,
or mailed directly to you.

SANUM Therapy
SANUM Therapy is a system of healing using isopathic/homeopathic
medicines that assist in restoring balance and harmony to an organism.
This system addresses a wide variety of disease conditions, and provides
a new possible treatment for various ailments. The basic premise is
that the warm-blooded mammal (other animals most likely do as well
as humans) houses primordial forms of microorganisms. These forms
exist in a symbiotic nature with their host. The environment within
the host determines the fate of this microorganism. If the environment
- the internal milieu - stays healthy, then the basic forms stay healthy
and supportive symbiotically. However, if the internal milieu begins
to change, then the environment is now ready to support different
forms of the basic organism. This symposium explores how SANUM Therapy
restores health and balance in the human body by cleaning up the internal
milieu.

Tree of Dreams
Everyone is a Hero. Everyone has a Story. Lynn Andrews
is acknowledged as one of the creators of the genre called 'Visionary
Autobiography.' For over two decades this amazing woman has shared
her knowledge through ceremony, sacred experiences and her special
ability to weave the truth into a story that you can literally step
into and make your own. In her newest book Tree of Dreams, Lynn reminds
each of us that we all have personal healing stories. Through sharing
our stories we are empowered to see and experience our humanness and
our divinity woven together in a wonderful, sometimes humorous, and
always healing adventure. It is time to start truly remembering your
story - remembering your truth, your beauty and your story, understanding
why you are here and knowing what you came into this life to experience
and share with those around you. This is a bit like piecing together
a puzzle. You will find the pieces that are right for you and then
we will string these pieces together to create a beautiful story.
Please join us for this magnificent workshop.
Presenter: Lynn Andrews
Internationally acclaimed, best-selling author, Lynn Andrews has written
over 18 books, currently published in 12 languages. Her work continually
leads us into a powerful exploration of self-discovery and spirituality.
Considered a pre-eminent teacher in the field of personal development,
Ms. Andrews is a 21st century shaman and contemporary mystic whose
words reflect her path, a path of heart. For more than a decade, women
and men from all over the world have gathered with Ms. Andrews for
an annual four-day retreat in California. In response to requests
for further in-depth study, The Lynn Andrews Center for Sacred Arts
and Training was established in 1994. Andrews' work explores the ancient
teachings taught by the Sisterhood of the Shields that embrace the
study of global shamanic cosmologies. It is her intention that through
this work we understand how all that is sacred in life weaves together
within our world. Throughout time, shamans have practiced the art
of choreographing energy in a nonlinear field. Shamanic knowledge
and practice is at the very heart of creation. As 21st Century shamans
we learn to create a sacred circle in which we transform our ordinary
life into a life of power.

Burnham Systems Facial RejuvenationSM:
Training in the Basics (6/22,23), Training in
Minor Miracle (6/24,25)
About Burnham Systems Facial RejuvenationSM:
Skilled hands-on sculpting of the face, neck and shoulders combined
with the ageless healing arts of head reflexology and nerve rejuvenation,
awakens your beauty and renews your inner self. While redefining facial
features through a carefully developed system of patterned strokes
and energetic touch sequences, twelve major nerve centers on the head
are activated, and "reflexively", activate centers throughout
the whole body. This work's most important concepts: presence, loving
intentionality, cellular communication and trust allow your understanding
of energy to deepen to a new level of expertise: how energy works,
how to move it, and how to create the space for transformational change:
physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This process not only changes
people's faces, it changes people's lives, including the lives of
those who do the work.
Phase I: Training in the Basics
Phase I is the hands-on introduction to the Rejuv Touch. Basic
strokes, location and uses of the twelve major facial nerve centers,
and a foundation in energetic healing principles are taught as a complete
rejuvenation process. This class is open to all: professional body
and energy workers, practitioners of body/mind medicine, estheticians,
novice healers or caring friends.
Phase II: Training in Minor Miracle
Phase II deepens your trust in yourself and in the process. New
strokes and sequences are added offering more precision to the skilled
work on all areas. Focus shifts to creating rejuvenating and regenerating
energy flows throughout the entire body. The potency of the Rejuv
work becomes transformational. Phase I is the pre-requisite.
Presenter: Linda Burnham, N.D.
Dr. Linda Burnham has professionally trained and certified Burnham
Systems Facial RejuvenationSM, practitioners nationwide for over twenty

The Science of Colostrum
This lecture will focus on the properties of colostrum
as a natural food source supporting all immune functions of the body.
Topics will include colostrum processes and component valuing based
on Dr. Richard Cockrum's 40 years of research, and his new research
just out of Cornell university on the immunomodulators in colostrum.
Studies conducted at Cornell University and Immuno-Dynamics, Inc.
have shown that supplementation of the diet of experimental animals
with a dried preparation of first milking bovine colostrum was associated
with a statistically significant modification of several markers in
the blood associated with functioning of the immune response to bacterial
infection. Heightened activation of the host immune response was associated
with lower bacterial counts and less inflammation in treated animals.
The findings from this study provide for the first time substantial
scientific evidence for what has been postulated for many years -
that daily human intake of a truly effective first milking bovine
colostrum will bolster the ability of the immune system to respond
to microbial infections.
Presenter: Richard Cockrum, DVM
Dr. Richard Cockrum's interest in white blood cells and the body's
lymphatic drainage system began in the early 1950's. He studied pre-med
and law at Washburn University in Kansas before receiving his degree
in veterinary medicine from Iowa State University in 1963. Upon graduating
he opened a veterinary practice in central Iowa where he established
one of the first preventative medicine practices in the United States.
Fueled by this interest in preventative medicine, and coupled with
his awareness and experience with the immune system function, Dr.
Cockrum proceeded to develop a pure colostrum process for production,
thereby founding the Science of Colostrum. He founded Immuno-Dynamics,
Inc. in 1980 and began identifying, qualifying, and quantifying colostral
components. Dr. Cockrum is a partner with the Feather Wind UnlimitedTM
company of Santa Fe whose founder and president is Anne Firth, RN.
Ms. Firth is a deeply committed Health Consultant who, along with
Dr. Cockrum, spends hours each day educating people about the benefits
of colostrum as a support to the immune system.

Choosing Health & Saving Earth: How to Consume Food & Medicine
[Providing Membership Certification with the Functional
and Dental Health (FDH) Foundation, Required for Health Coach Certification
(CHC)]
Content:
A. Introduction to Functional Medicine and to Biological Dentistry
B. Ecological Nutrition for Life - How to Eat and Live as Nature Intended
The first day starts with a description of today's health trends,
philosophies, and therapeutic approaches. The various definitions
of health and disease will be discussed, leading to logical deductions
regarding allopathic medicine's techniques of diagnosis and treatment.
More holistic means of diagnosis and therapy will be offered, with
scientific reasoning and common-sense approaches that support prevention,
early diagnosis, and cause-oriented treatment of disease. Functional
medicine will be defined, and several popular functional evaluations
will be presented with sufficient details to empower the layperson
to make valid decisions about self-assessments. The student will be
able to recognize common tendencies and symptoms that would suggest
utilizing these functional assessments and methods for obtaining and
interpreting them will be discussed. The day continues with a discussion
of the agricultural, industrial, and environmental sources of heavy
metals and their toxic effects on the human body. Special focus is
then given to mercury and other relevant heavy metals, and the role
of dental amalgam in mercury exposure and toxicity. A review of the
vast scientific literature will demonstrate the detrimental effects
of mercury (and other components of amalgam) on the physiology of
our immune system, central nervous system, endocrine system, general
metabolism, the cardiovascular system, and our organs of detoxification.
The benefits, risks, and basic aspects of dental procedures for amalgam
removal are discussed, as well as methods for assessment of heavy
metal burden, dental material compatibility, and other evaluations
of dental health and disease. The controversies surrounding root canals,
cavitations, and periodontal disease will be briefly explored as well
as the nutritional aspects of dental and oral health, including detoxification
pathways and procedures.
The last 3 hours of the first day and the entire second
day promise to be a fascinating journey through our evolution, explaining
the impact we have on our health and on our planet as consumers and
producers of food. Both logical and scientific methods will be used
to illustrate the optimal dietary lifestyle for humans, according
to evolutionary and anthropological signposts, including discussions
about proteins, fats, carbohydrates, animal flesh, dairy products,
plant foods, raw foods, living foods, and the effects of out eating
habits and choices on our physical, mental, and emotional health as
individuals and as a society. Many nutritional myths will be dispelled,
and the commercial and health food industries exposed (from canola
oil to GMO's) as giant manufacturers of dietary propaganda designed
to produce huge profits at the public's expense.
Presenter: Adiel Tel-Oren, MD, DC, LN, DACBN, DABOM,
CCN, FABDA, DABCT(c)

Nutritional Therapies for Cancer Prevention & Treatment
Knowledge is power, especially when you or someone
you know is told, "It is cancer." This dynamic workshop
will address both Prevention (reducing your risk) and Natural Treatment
Modalities. Topics to be covered include:
Biofeedback is a training technique in which people are
taught to improve their health and performance by using signals from
their own bodies. Biological functions which are commonly measured include
muscle tension, skin temperature, heart rate and brain waves. This workshop
teaches practitioners biofeedback protocols for the study of a newly
defined biological function: Living Systems Information. Living Systems
Information is the body's bio-electronic language of energy and information.
It is the biological communication mode that allows the body to instantaneously
process the vast amount of data it receives from every part of itself
and the environment. This study of living systems information biofeedback
uses a new German biofeedback instrument, the VEGA Bio-expert. The Bio-expert
is the first device produced by the well-known German VEGA firm specifically
for the U.S. market. It is registered with the FDA as a medical device
for biofeedback training. At this workshop you'll learn the science
behind electrodermal screening and discover how it actually works. During
the workshop's hands-on sessions, you'll be provided with step-by-step
instruction on how to perform biofeedback measurements, interpret findings,
and select the most effective therapies for each patient.
Presenter: Christopher J. Fabricius, ND
Dr. Christopher J. Fabricius is a Licensed Primary Care Physician. As
a Naturopathic Physician, his medical training has encompassed Natural
Medicine and Naturopathic Philosophy with Modern Conventional Medicine.
He is a graduate of National College of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Fabricius
is currently in private practice with an international base of patients.
He does not treat "disease" per se, but rather, treats the
individual to bring them to higher states of health both physically,
mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Within this scope he sees patients
with dysfunctions ranging from acute colds and earaches to chronic degenerative
and autoimmune conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, Crohn's disease
and cancers. It has been his success with individuals having cancer
that led him to be listed in the prestigious Ralph Moss, Ph.D. Report
as one of the top physicians of Natural Medicine in the USA for patients
afflicted with various cancers. In addition, Dr. Fabricius is a Master
of the Chinese martial art of Gung u called 'Kang Nei Chin' - the art
of "inexhaustible internal strength" - in which he has over
17 years experience.
The workshop will explore a variety of assumptions and
techniques that allow a wholistic practitioner to manage both physical
and psychological pain. The primary assumption of the presenter is that
the body holds much of our emotional and physical history and it (the
body) rarely lies. By learning to hear the metaphor, understand body
language, create visual pictures and apply therapeutic touch, the true
meaning of pain comes alive and can be healed.
Knowing the cause reveals the solution. This lecture
explains how cancer and other diseases develop, and the steps necessary
to reverse the procedure. It reveals why most cancer treatments fail
through an incredibly interesting and enlightening discussion.
This is a unique pain management course in that it uses
an integrative medicine approach to a pain management specialty. Additionally,
it is the first of two levels required for completion of the Ph.D. in
this specialty. Students are not required to complete a Ph.D. and may
elect to participate in only the first part of the program. Completion
of the first level is comparable to 'Board Certification in Pain Management'
(BCPM). Practitioners successfully completing all requirements of the
course shall be entitled to use "BCPM" to distinguish them
for their academic and medical achievement. BCPM will provide the practitioner
an in depth, broad spectrum knowledge in the utilization of the different
western and complementary modalities available, a practitioner who can
consult with other practitioners and help plan a more ideal treatment
protocol for the patient of the 21st century. This course is particularly
important for clinicians interested in integrating their practice of
pain management with all currently available philosophies and modalities.
The BCPM should meet the requirements of many third party carriers,
which now require advanced level training or board certification status
to be documented before consideration of claims for payment.

symposium wherein the practitioners will attend lectures by experts

source of knowledge in their diagnosis and treatment of pain disorders.
The symposia will additionally offer hands-on experience in learning
Qigong, Meditation, Trigger Point Release, Acupuncture and Auriculotherapy.
Time will be allotted for in-person question resolution and communication

Opening the elimination channels. Remove pounds of toxic
rubber-like ropes (mucoid plaque) from the bowels, one of the most important
contributors towards disease of the mind and body. Opening the lymphatic
drainage system, cleansing the urinary system, purging the largest elimination
organ - the skin, increasing energy, and feeling more alive and joyful,
are other areas that will be covered in this exciting lecture.
