Doctor of Naturopathy (For Health Professionals)
Prerequisites
A doctorate or health practitioner license: M.D., D.O., D.C., D.O.M./L.Ac.,
D.D.S., D.HOM., D.V.M., Ph.D., P.A., R.N.P. or an equivalent qualified
profession in the health field.
*Each Curriculum is Individually Designed with the Practitioner.

Practicals & Clinical
(A minimum of 24 Credit Hours)
The practical training requirement may be fulfilled by attending and
successfully completing one of our scheduled or approved trainings,
seminars, or apprenticeship programs in Santa Fe, nationally or inter-
nationally. The University will provide a listing and schedule of the
many modalities and offerings on our website or directly through
the University. In order to receive credit the student must receive a
satisfactory pass or certificate of completion from the appropriate instructor.
All practicals must be pre-approved by the student’s Dean.
Practical: The requirements for these courses are:
- Complete the practical offered at the Santa Fe campus or an affiliate.
- Complete a certification course, practical, or seminar at a pre-approved location in an apprenticeship, or with a pre-approved instructor.
- If the student finds it impossible to fulfill either of the above require-
ments then they may apply for a special exception. This exception will
require that the student submit documentation in the form of either case
studies, a research paper and/or other representation of how they have
integrated this modality or course of study into their practice.
- The last alternative would be to complete a research study in the
particular science or modality.
Clinical: The University has a growing list of clinics and centers through-
out the Americas and in many foreign countries with practitioners offering
to assist students in fulfilling externship requirements. The clinical externship
may be completed with a professional practitioner in the area in which the
student resides as well. A student may also decide to complete the externship
with more than one practitioner to receive a diversity of experience and
training. All preceptors in the externship program must meet the established
qualifications and requirements of the University of Natural Medicine and
thereby be approved by the Clinical Director and Dean. Upon completion
of the clinical program, the clinical director will personally evaluate each
individual’s learning experience and preparedness for integrating knowledge
into a Naturopathic practice. A current list of the University’s available
clinics, hospitals and centers for externships will be given to the student
upon completion of the first half of their curriculum.
All courses must be documented and verified in order to receive credit.
